Class X English: Language, Literature, and Academic Excellence
At DNG Tutorial, we approach Class X English not just as an exam to pass, but as a critical skill that sharpens communication, analytical thinking, and overall board exam percentages. Our program is designed to build a flawless command over English grammar, creative writing, and literary analysis to help students secure maximum marks in their CBSE Board examinations.
Syllabus Architecture
The Class X English curriculum is systematically divided into three main components:
1. Reading Skills (Comprehension)
Discursive Passages: Developing the ability to read, analyze, and infer meanings from complex, argumentative texts.
Case-Based Factual Passages: Training students to decode and interpret data, charts, and reports, extracting specific factual information accurately under timed conditions.
2. Writing Skills and Grammar
Formal Writing: Mastering the layout, tone, and precise structuring required for high-scoring Formal Letters (Letters to the Editor, Complaints, Inquiries, or Orders) and Analytical Paragraphs based on data maps, charts, or cues.
Applied Grammar: Building absolute clarity in core editing and gap-filling topics, including Tenses, Modals, Subject-Verb Concord, Determiners, and Reported Speech (Commands, Requests, Statements, and Questions).
3. Literature Textbooks & Supplementary Reading
Deep thematic analysis, character sketches, and textual understanding of the prescribed books:
First Flight (Prose & Poetry): Analyzing iconic prose pieces like A Letter to God, Nelson Mandela: Long Walk to Freedom, and Glimpses of India, along with deep poetic interpretations of Dust of Snow, Fire and Ice, and The Tale of Custard the Dragon.
Footprints Without Feet (Supplementary): Exploring narrative structures and character behaviors in stories like A Triumph of Surgery, The Thief’s Story, and The Making of a Scientist.
How We Make English Easy and Scoring
Format Mastery Worksheets: Writing sections heavily depend on adhering to exact CBSE formats. We provide clear, repeatable templates for formal letters and analytical paragraphs so students never lose marks on layout.
Decoding Literature Extract-Based Questions: Board exams focus heavily on reference-to-context questions. We teach students how to read between the lines, interpret poetic devices (metaphors, personification, alliteration), and draft precise, high-scoring answers.
Keywords & Character Analysis: To score full marks in long-answer questions, students must use specific textual keywords and structural character traits. We provide curated notes summarizing major themes and character arcs for every chapter.
Time Management & Mock Boards: The English paper can be lengthy. Through regular reading practice and timed mock exams, we train students to balance their time perfectly between reading comprehensions, grammar, and long literature answers.
